"Igor Zelensky"

Does anyone if he is seeing anyone at the moment? I know he's stopped seeing Katya, but wondered about Lisa Maree Cullem from Bayerische Staatsballett? Hope you can help, thanks.

   Alice,

Forgive me, I think this is probably a personal matter between Igor, and er ....Igor!

Don't wish to seem rude, but why do you wish to know?.....

I really do think that dancers' private lives are their business. Don't they give enough of themselves already. expose enough of their bodies and dig deeply enough to portray emotion on stage without us, the public, wanting to pry into what little is left?
An absolutely outrageous posting - are you a dance lover or a stalker ?

That's nothing, Gerald - a while back we had a posting baldly asking if such-and-such a dancer was 'gay, or what'!

I too must agree. The original posting in this string is entirely out of order.

I have been disappointed of late of a growing number of postings on Ballet.com and can understand why one reader may now feel that it is edging towards a community of gossips.

There is so much that is so vitally informative and positive, - Bruce does a remarkable job of behalf of us all - it would be a shame -- indeed a crime -- if all the good were to be overshadowed and the all important element of trust disemboweled.

i think that it is perhaps partially justified when the person in question makes a point of escorting someone to very very public events, like the academy awards or some other such thing. but not, when as in zelensky's case, he has not.

Quite. If a dancer (or for that matter anyone) chooses to talk about their private life publicly (e.g. TV, the press), or behave in such a way that it might be noted in the press (and I mean going to e.g. high-profile first nights with people, rather than being found drunk & disorderly!) that's one thing, but unless they do that I think it's none of our business what they get up to in their private lives.

Agreed that this is a slightly strange posting and I agree it is intrusive. However, there are occasional postings on this site about dancers personal lives (albeit less direct) such as the news re Darcey's baby. I know that this is a v.different message above but we cannot say that the have never been postings about anything other than professional matters concerning dancers.

<< I have been disappointed of late of a growing number of postings on Ballet.com and can understand why one reader may now feel that it is edging towards a community of gossips.>>

I take your point but this is an open forum for people to discuss ballet/dance and people shold be allowed to have their opinions provided they are not libellous or likely to cause general offense (and Bruce etc do great work on monitoring this). Although this posting is out of step with the tone of whats on the website generally, I don't think you could say it was offensive as much as intrusive. If people are overly critical of the tone of others messages, I think that destroys the value of this website as a discussion forum and may put future web users off posting.

On a more positive note, does anyone know if there are any plans to bring Zelensky back as a guest to the RB? Or is he now back fulltime with the Kirov?

Performers' lives should be private, if they wish them to be. But while I mostly agree with the replies to Alice, I wouldn't wish to be over censorious.

Many performers insist on privacy, but not all do. Some have very visible personae and voraciously seek publicity. Ballet (not so obviously contemporary dance) is very close in some of its aspects to other parts of the entertainment industry. It shares many of the industry's wider values. It has stars who cheerfully co-operate with fashion shoots and with features for such magazines as 'Hello'. So let's not pretend that the ballet world is entirely convent-like; there is a degree of glitz to it and that is part of the fun.

If ballet.co is to be a credible site, it has to reflect some of these values, in addition to carrying 'heavy duty' pieces of criticism and analysis. It is unapologetically a "consumers' site", one of the reasons that it works so well. I don't think it is even remotely in danger of becoming "a community of gossips".

Whilst I agree that the initial posting was not in the best taste I think the criticm is a bit harsh.

There is an element of showbiz in dancing and as such their personal lives can be a source of interest. Who a dancer is seeing is not that intrusive _ most dancers are quite happy to say so (Gulliem is an exception!)

   well said Brenden and Eugene

Can I suggest anyone not interested in dancers off stage doesn't read the piece in today's standard about Kirov dancers and their shopping habits!

I have to say I do enjoy hearing about dancers as real people, not just as on-stage personas. Not necessarily who they are dating and if they are gay, but about what motivates them to dance, what was the impetus behind becoming a dancer, what works they like performing, and even if they are married, what they do in their spare time, interests and so forth. I won't ask intrusive questions, but will read articles, such as the piece on Lopatkina a few days ago, and dance biographies with pleasure. It's inevitable there should be some interest about performers.

Yes but Darcey's news was posted on her web site and her pregnany was public knowlede via press statements and of course Hello Magazine.

I heard Igor has given an interview to darceybussell.com so perhaps he has mentioned his future plans. I did read that he is going to put on his own production of Raymonda in Greece in a few weeks time so I don't think he is back full time with the Kirov.
