"'In C' - First night Balanchine Evening"

I was so upset last night - Was it absolutely necessary Uliana Lopatkina should dance in the 2nd movement of Symphony in C? Apparently she was not fit to dance to say the least - it gave me a great pain to see her tyring to make ends meet - somehow she endured the adagio but no chance with allegro in the finale - she couldn't turn; lost control... I was horrified to witness all these... most unlikely scenes you expect from this dancer.

Previously I saw her twice in this piece in the space of 4 years - on both occasions she left the strongest impressions - the way she melted into the unforgettable music was nothing but a miracle, so was her incredible control of the movements. More than anything, she possessed dignity and charisma this piece requires - I still have a vivid memory of the atmosphere she created; when she stood in the centre of the stage with her arms in 3rd position, it felt as if the entire auditorium was embraced with her artistry and aura. Those were truly exceptional moments...

She danced Swan Lake with an injury - was it not good enough? They should have released/liberated her once the 'mission' was over .... Was it not a serious misjudgment on Management's part?

   Dear Naoko,
I was not present at June 2nd performance, but I saw reviews by Kevin Ng, NO7 and some others, and they were quite impressed with Lopatkina's dancing. So I am a bit confused about your impressions of yours.
But I'd like to thank you very much for your compassion, and I can't agree with you more about Kirov management's treatment of their dancers.

   Hi A.M.,

I guess it's just that different people have different opinions. In my case I've been a devoted follower of Lopatkina for quite some time - to me she's not just one of those exceptionally talented Kirov dancers - she is totally different from others, an incomparable artist. So my views are very biased; my expectations for Lopatkina is higher than a mountain!

Anyway I felt so relieved she was replaced as Zobeide tonight - hope she had gone home by now....
