"ENB Dancers in Loaded Magazine..."

ENB are at it again - Tamara Rojo and other dancers are in this months Loaded magazine! The Telegraph has a piece about it:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/et?ac=000148269364269&rtmo=auBh4h4J&atmo=YYYYNbNp&pg=/et/99/5/31/nbal31.html

and rather nicely they link to our interview with Tamara. Now off to buy my first ever copy of loaded....!

Following the recommendations on this page, I purchased 'Loaded' magazine, keen to bring myself up-to-date with the promised in-depth article on ENB. I have to say that I am rather puzzled by the style of this unfamiliar journal, but I certainly didn't realise just how out-of-date I was.

There were some unusual photos of two ladies called Gerri Halliwell and Sara Cox. Looking through my old ENB programmes I can find no mention of their names. Can you please confirm whether they are Principals, Senior Soloists, Junior Soloists, Under-Assistant Junior Guest Soloists etc.

There was also an article about a chamber ensemble called 'The Stereophonics', which presumably plays at some of the smaller touring venues, such as Bexhill.

But I must say that some of the rest of the magazine did seem 'tasteless'. In the section called 'Clubs', there was an entirely gratuitous photo, unrelated to the theme, with six, admittedly attractive ladies, in black underwear - I turned the page quickly.

I certainly feel I am now more up-to-date with ENB, but would have liked to see something about that nice Mr.Corder's nice 'Cinderella', perhaps in place of the article about collecting football stickers.

The irony is that all the things Deane hates about British dancers ("too titty and too bummy") are the sort of things Loaded magazine readers like. Are there any English girls pictured?

Men magazines such as Loaded are for oversexed, overgrown children who have a lot of money (or aspire to it). To cultivate these people to the finer points about art and ballet is about as about as difficult as training a tomcat to be vegetarian!

Quite so, Eugene. What always amazes me is when you see people openly buying these magazines, oblivious to the admonishing looks from people of refinement and good taste, appalled at such decadent behaviour.

I certainly find it much less embarressing to subscibe.

I am normally suprised that these people can read at all! - Maybe they can't so they just prefer to look at pictures of sexy ballet dancers...

: What I find so daft is the idea that these lads will look at the pictures, book for the ballet (oh yeah?) and then discover that all these attractive women will be dressed in standard classical ballet gear, i.e. tutus and headdresses, and will be so far away that they'll be un-ogleable anyway! I suspect this might have worked better if the pictures had been used to promote a contemporary ballet in which the dancers were actually going to be dressed similarly to in the pictures! It was like when they tried spicing up the advertising for the Christmas season of Nutcracker and Cinderella - two ballets for which you'd normally expect a *family* audience.

Not if they take their 25x75 ex-WW2 German tank binoculars, like what I do when I go to see Sylvie

These mags are really The Sun for male yuppies. Its full of articles about yachts, planes, audio equipment and other expensive toys in additional to pictures of women.

That's a little unfair. I think it just shows what I have thought for years, which is that the Dancing Times is really The Sun for balletomanes.

It's certainly fortunate for us that we have such an authority on these magazines in our midst, Eugene.
