"Fonteyn and Nureyev"

Sorry if this sounds like scandal-mongering but I just wanted to know if this was true, as I certainly don't recall reading it anywhere else. In this article, it says Fonteyn became pregnant by Nureyev just before her husband was shot. Has anyone else heard of this?

This story is taken almost word for word from Peter Watson's 1994 bibliography of Nureyev, a sensationalist and rather unpleasant piece of journalism. Diane Solway, in her later and much superior biography, has convincing arguments against it. It is almost certainly untrue.

Not only that Helen, but I find it quite contemptible that this 'story' should emerge only after the two protagonists are safely out of the way and unable to speak for themselves. There is apparently nothing stop anyone from saying anything they like about deceased celebrities.

I quite agree, Ann. I think the simple truth is that hardly anybody knows the actual facts, and in true tabloid manner what the gossip journalists haven't got, they invent.

Apologies for typing "bibliography" when obviously I meant "biography".
