"Stephen Wicks -what happened to him?"

After watching the Royal's Winter Dreams I was curious about Stephen Wicks. I did a little research here and only found one comment - he is selling flowers?

So, how did that career change come about? He seemed like a lovely dancer.

I heard him speak at a Friends of Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet meeting before they moved to Birmingham and became BRB.

He was very popular in Birmingham, but had decided he could not move with the company as he needed to stay in London, as he had back problems for which he was recieving treatment. He did not expect to be able to dance for many more years due to the problems with his back.

He dances on the video of Hobson's Choice as well, if you can find a copy.

He has spent some time as a Ballet Board member since his retirement.

   Pauline,

Thank you so much for the information. I am sorry to hear of his back injury. He was a lovely partner in Winter Dreams.

Stephen Wicks - along with Mark Welford also formerly of SWRB - now owns and runs the florist Bloomsbury in Great Queen Street in Covent Garden.

Stephen Wicks was sitting in front of me at the Anthony Dowell gala. He was one of my favourite dancers. One of the many real pleasures of that event was spotting favourite retired performers in the audience - I also passed Maria Almeida on the stairs of the Opera House.
