As gala go this was a goodie! Sadly the gala was clearly not televised. I saw no cameras or the BBC truck outside. Given that they televised Queen of Spades (deservedly so - highlight of the ROH season) just a few days ago they ought to do this one as well. Great to see Viviana Durante in two pdd - Giselle and Manon! |

>Everyone who went will have >different favourite items, but for >me the highlights were this >surprise duet, Bolle and Benjamin Completely agree - thought this was so moving and beautifully danced! My favourite without doubt on the night! The last two galas I have been to have been so well though out and if nothing else they should invite Anthony back to oversee the next one! |

Hate to lower the tone, but I'd never seen Roberto Bolle before and was gobsmacked by how HUGE he is!! Meow!!! Between him, Jonathan Cope and Carlos Acosta, I was fainting away regularly. Being more constructive and adult about it, my fave bits were the Thais duet as well, AND the Don Quixote number and of course the Manon excerpt. My only disappointment was that Alina Cojocaru only got that tiny dance, which I thought was slightly dull, and the world's most HIDEOUS costume!! Poor thing. I would have been gutted if that was me!! |

As far as I remember Bolle had a perfect figure last year in Swan Lake and the Nutcracker. Things can change over months! >excerpt. He wasn't fat huge - just big boned compared to all the more neatly built male dancers. He was marvellous. Alina did a month in the country, i think. I know very little about ballet, so can't say a lot about it, but i'm a huge fan of hers, and was just disappointed what she got to do. |

Varii Capriccii was advertised - did this happen? Mukhamedov would seem to be a natural for the gigolo pdd in this - or what did he do? Those of you who attended - more details please?! How was the front of house decorated - as gorgeous as Madam's 90th birthday gala in 1988? |

I didn't know what would be danced until I bought my programme. And speaking of programmes - have any of you read yours yet? What did you think of Sylvie's piece? (I thought it rather interesting.) Bruce - do you think we'd be allowed to quote from the programme (and if so, how much?) without infringing copyright? I think people might be interested in some of the comments. - Wendy |

>What, no Irek? Viv as >Manon WITHOUT IREK? Not >so sad I missed it >now - Yes I would agree with that but was Irek in the gala ? I am still green with envy. I would loved to have seen Viv as she is one of my favourite ballerinas and I have missed her presence at the Royal ballet. I think it is so bad that the BBC did not make a video recording of the gala. Does anyone know if Durante plans to dance in London this year ? Will we ever see Irek and Viv together again ?

Cojararu did dance Vera's pdd, and I have to say she had the same look on her face as she did when I saw her dance Clara and Giselle. I thought Stiefel was stunning, dare I say it but better than Kobborg the other night. He had that fey, other worldly look about him that I felt Kobborg lacked, well as he got his feet around it. | | | | |
