That is one headline sailing across my screen this morning. It says 'more later'; I'll post more when they give the full story.

Apparently this story is in the Sunday Times. According to their report the ROH would be available on Sundays when the opera and ballet companies do not perform. Bjork is said to be in negotiation stage a concert there in September.

Sounds like an excellent money making initiative and good use of a magnificent looking venue. It will almost certainly be more effective for such concerts than for ballet, given its poor sightlines.

Hello Ann. I read this too. It looks to me like Bjork wants to do a concert with an orchestra and chorus, wants to do it in a venue that has some affinity with this arrangement (and one which will make people take notice) and she has chosen the Royal Opera House. The rest reads very much like spin - someone is just making up a big story out of one isolated incident. Apart from the one Bjork concert in September (which may be quite exciting) nothing concrete is mentioned in the article I saw. Don't expect the Rolling Stones yet!

"amid signs that the public appetite for ballet may have temporarily peaked".

Not at the ROH, it hasn't - Saturday's performance was sold out, and I don't think I've managed to get a ballet standby since the place reopened! Admittedly, attendances at the Bolshoi, BRB and DNB have been rather disappointing, though.

I have to admit, I did have to double-check the date on this to make sure it wasn't April 1st. Perhaps our suggestion of filming a Bond movie there wasn't so OTT after all!
