SAD TO HEAR THIS , DO YOU KNOW WHAT HER FUTURE PLANS ARE, AND FOR WHAT REASON DID SHE RETIRE?

At the Ballet Association this evening, she gave a very pragmatic account of her reasons for leaving the RB. While injuries were a contributing factor, her personal priorities had changed. She said she was very much "leaving the company with love". Of those who had mentored her, she mentioned Gerd Larsen with special fondness.

She will not be severing her connections with dance, and will specialise in rehabilitation for injured dancers. A compelling reason for taking this direction was, she said, the relative lack of awareness in the dance world (as compared to sport) of the cumulative toll on performers' bodies. While still performing with the Royal Ballet, Sara trained in aquatherapy and in pilates. She is now well on the way to graduating as a Cecchetti teacher, which is very appropriate in the light of her specialisation in Ashton roles.

Her performance tonight was quite delightful and revealed a considerable well of self-knowledge. She was received with great warmth; many will look forward to meeting her again on the safe side of the footlights.

Wow, it's a shame she had to retire so young, but good on her for moving on. I think it's great that so many dancers find new careers and new inspirations after their career ends, particularly when it relates to helping others in ballet. Wishing Sara the best of luck!
