Saw the two performances of Arthur 1&2 on Saturday 12 May for the first time. Mr Murphy was ill so Tiit Helimets did A1 and Michael Shannon did A2 Lancelots.

I'm not very experienced. But I got the idea that Mr Bintley does lyrical better than angst. Therefore preferred A2 on first showing although felt it a bit long. The ending was anti-climactic in moving from a double death of the protagonists to the Lancelot/Guinevere reconcilliation and I couldn't undertand why the apocalypse should be treated in that fashion.

However, I look forward to seeing them again in Birmingham in the Autumn.

Any other views?

Just put this up on the This Week page - sorry but no time to tweak or elaborate yet...

Last week I got to see BRB's Arthur Part 2 at Sadler's Wells. Given that many had reservations about Arthur part 1 - the complexity of its story particularly, I was more than a little concerned. However I rather enjoyed part 2. The characters were more clearly marked and the dancers partcuiallry brought things alive much more. The choreography was fine, though Bintley has perhaps done better, and there are the lovely Conran costumes and a good set. The John McCabe score was perhaps the weakest link - the style does not flow or assist when it needs to. But overall I think Arthur p2 is a good knight (sorry). In fact it ought to be called Morgan Le Fay in the same way that DonQ should be renamed to have Kitri in the title.
