Nice that people feel attached to the site and everybody is a stakeholder to one degree or another. But all endeavours need effort/money, direction and the occasional judgment of Soloman... which is what I do.

Concerning telling others about us I've always thought that 'the word' on a site was best spread by users rather then webmasters or others closely identified with a site. Certainly I abhor the large, if apparently individual, emailing that has gone on as existing sites users are systematically targeted by newer ones.

In terms of growing more users the 'difficulty' is not visitors but rather visitors who post. We have thousands of different visitors each week but as a proportion very few actually post.

This was brought home to me when Postings was recently lost for a night and I got 4 emails from very regular readers... who I don't think have ever thought able to actually post something. This is not a criticism - many people see sites as places to visit rather than interact with perhaps. But I would really like to challenge that... If in the next month all our visitors made a note to contribute a thought to an existing thread or start a new one Postings would be absolutely incredible. And this applies wherever you live - its great to know what is going on all around the world.....

   Dear Bruce,

I was one of those who e-mailed you when the Postings Page went down, and I do sometimes post myself, honest! I do agree, however, that it does seem to rely on a small number of regular postees, but perhaps there are other people who feel like I do sometimes, i.e. that I'm simply too ignorant to feel able to express an opinion that others might be interested in reading, except (in my case) in a very narrow area of the dance world. This isn't meant as any kind of criticism, or implication that regular postees would be patronising towards my lack of knowledge, but just a possible explanation. Anyway, I still love visiting the site, and perhaps through reading other people's postings I will learn enough to feel more confident about volunteering my opinions on a wider front in the future.

I am another regular visitor to the site, which I find invaluable. But I come to learn and I feel, very much like
Jane N, that my knowledge is pretty limited and so I rarely feel that I could add anything useful to other users.

it doesn't matter that you don't know anything ..most people know more than what they think they do...anyway , you like ballet , you feel strongly about things , you can reply to comments etc...
you don't have to access a site to be constantly contributing to it..unless you want to!!

I'm interested in everyone's opinions, whether "knowledgeable" or not. A fresh eye, not too burdened with a lot of information, is often very revealing.
