"irek again"

look I am sorry to bang on about this, but is it really possible that next week's Giselle might be Irek's last role with the company? Giselle last night was absolutely heartrending - they were both superb - taut, crisp, air-hung. He may be 41 but he is still SO GOOD. I can't stand this - does anyone know for sure? Anyone got Ross Stretton or Anthony Dowell's mobile number? They don't need to be sentimental about this - just recognise here's a crowd puller who can still do the business and teach the younger ones a thing or two. I might try emailing them... HELP!

oh please , get a grip!
so he is a good dancer , if he wants to go ..who can stop him??
i mean i don't want Sir Anthony to go ..but i can't stop him!!
maybe it is just a rumour , you know how these things are..maybe he is just testing the water so to speak??
if you are going to write to him do it via the ROH as he will be sure to get your letter.

I have read the article that Irek Mukhamedov is choreographing his own version of "Swan Lake" at National Ballet of Poland, Teatr Wielki Opera Naradowa. The world premire will be on May 25th.

Check the Opera Narodowa site

How interesting that Irek is trying choreography yet again. I believe he has done short pieces for his 'Irek and Friends' London seasons, but I distinctly remember reading an interview in which he claimed choreography was not for him, something about not being able to visualize steps for other bodies to perform.

Good luck to him with Swan Lake.

You never thought that he might want to leave because there is more to life than Dance. Sorry if that comes as a shock but it is true. He has already shown us that he is intertested in doing other things ie. CASUALTY. Yes he is a great dancer who does pull in crowds and can still do most things, but he is dancing for himself not for us. Good luck in whatever he decides to do.

He was excellent on Monday - sad to think it may be the last time he is in giselle. I am really going to miss him too when he goes -he has not just ability but charisma which is something that is quite rare too.

There may also be something in him wanting to retire at the top -he has been used to having the lead roles for a long time, doyou think he would want to continue in those when he was not so able (and risk the kind of criticism that Nureyev got at the end of his career) or be moved into lesser roles.

I hope that he finds success in whatever he chooses to do next.

Could somebody please let me know wether Irek has announced his
intention to retire officially or if this discussion is based on
pure speculation? I really would like to know as I suspect would
all of Irek's fans.

It was pure speculation - but at his age, you never know, when the moment to go will arrive. As a great admirer, I hope it will be sooner rather than later, while he is still great. I know he had said he won't retire into character roles.
