"Thoughts on Giselle - 17th July"

Just had a great day at Sadlers Wells! At the matinee performance, Belinda Hatley gave a lovely performance as Giselle(stepping in at short notice for Darcey Bussell), and was well partnered by Inaki Urlezaga(filling in for Igor Zelensky). The two girls from the school who danced Monya and Zulme(Anu Viherianta and Maiko Nishino respectively) danced well, as did the the other students. I would have liked to have seen the students have a greater share of the soloist roles say for instance, the pas de six, especially as I was unable to get to Holland Park this year. What does anyone else think? Having said that, the Pas de six was well danced. Another highlight of the afternoon was Vanessa Palmer as Queen of the Wilis. It was nice to see her get a chance like this. She reminded me a little of Christina McDermott in the role.

Anyway, that's my general view of the performance, and was wandering what anyone else thought.

P.S. Viviana and Irek also gave a great performance in the evening, beating Thursdays performance in a way.
