I was shocked to see that Muriel Valtat, a marvellous classical dancer has now been given the role of Berthe, a role for a much older women, in Romeo and Juliet, she was given the part of the nurse, why is such a lovely lyrical dancer, being given these roles, when she could be dancing Giselle or Myrtha like the other first soloists, yes Muriel made much of both parts, but come on these roles are for dancers of forty years plus, not a girl who can dance Aurora and odette and much more beautifully, I like many regular ballet goers really cannot understand, why Muriel is being given these parts at such a tender age.
Come the powers that be and give the young women a chance to DANCE!!!!!

Michael you have said it all, I was shocked to see her name on the cast sheet as Berthe.
Lets hope the new A.D makes changes for the first soloists and gives them back what Sir Dowell has taken away.

Yes, I have to admit, having seen Valtat do either Myrtha or one of her attendants in the past (and remembering certain critics' comments on her beautiful Romantic style), I was very surprised to see her in that role. Mind you, ENB's Sarah Arnott was doing the same during their production of Giselle recently (and the grandmother in Nutcracker, now I come to think of it) - not sure whether there may have been other reasons involved in either case. For example, it's not entirely unknown for ADs to put dancers in non-dancing roles to get them more experience in acting onstage without any dancing to hide behind. Generally, though, there were some mighty unusual casting decisions last night, it seems to me.
