"Martin Harvey as Mercutio"

I was very impressed when i saw Martin Harvey (1st artist with the Royal Ballet) dance the part of Mercutio in their production of Romeo and Juliet on 10/4/01. His dancing was strong and powerful and his acting superb - he managed to achieve the perfect balance between pathos and humour that was vital to him part as Romeo's laddish and devoted friend. It was only after the performance that I realised that he was the understudy for the role!

Although I have seen him in class at the Royal and again in 'Duo:logue' in the Linbury Theatre, none of the programmes had any details about him. I was just wondering if anyone knew how I could find out more about him, his training and past performances or what he will be doing in the future? Are there any websites that has information about him? Having discovered him, I am now very keen to watch his progress and hopefully see him dance again!

I would be grateful if anyone could help.
Thanks.

Kate: gleaned the following from last year's "New Works" programme. He was born in Swindon, trained at the Tanwood School of Dance and the Royal Ballet School. Danced in Peter and the Wolf at the RBS performance (and presumably is therefore on the video) and also the Rake in the Rake's Progress, so presumably was thought quite highly of then. Joined the Royal in 1996, and seems to be making quite good progress, although he doesn't appear to have done anything major apart from this Mercutio. I'm surprised that they didn't have a slip with his details on inserted into the programme/cast sheet, unless it was such a last-minute replacement that there was no time.

Seems to be doing well in the more contemporary repertoire - I've seen him in a number of pieces.

He has also appeared with Irek Mukhamedov's company in their appearances at Sadler's, if I remember correctly, both last year and the year before. You can dig out some reviews which mention him if you search on Mukhamedov as the company name.

Can someone tell me what part he danced in Peter and the Wolf? Was he Peter? I haven't got the video but I remember it fairly well from the television showing a few Christmases ago.

Thanks for the information, A.K. I remember the Wolf, and he was very good.

I know it's not relevant to this thread, but if anyone knows what the boy who danced Peter is doing now, I'd be interested.

Well, I hope you find it. I enjoyed your performance. It must be difficult to come down to earth after an experience like that.
