"Can the RB really get away with it????"

at this beginig of the rb season last december i saw their delightfull production of swan lake with DARCY BUSSELL. it was a real treat and one of the highpoints of their season. being a freind of covent garden i recieved a booking form for their summer season only to find that they were staging the exact same production as the one they started the year with. i have never thought that th RB s repetoire was anything to shout about but this is taking it a bit far??
could anyone shed some light on their reasons for this odd piece of sheduling

VH is a profit making venture - consequently they want to do productions that make money! Swan brings in the punters and makes money. It probably requires minimal rehearsal. No one is to blame for this but conservative audiences who do not want to see adventurous work. VH are not to blame for wanting to get a return on their investment.

Anyhow the exciting SFBallet triple bill (3 of them!!!) make up for all the relatively standard fare of the Kirov and RB summer season in my view. Cannot Wait!!!!!

In Anthony Dowell's final season, surely no-one can question a re-run of his Swan Lake, after all no-one ever questions repeatd Christmases of The Nutcracker by any company. I can't wait for SF ballet either but I will make a trip to see Swan lake for the **th time, maybe I'll even pop along to the big screen relay of it - the first ever ballet givenn this sort of exposure in London

I have several friends who complain bitterly about the Nutcraker at Christmas.

They also complain if a ballet is repeated within three years as well which I think is excessive. It make for problems though when the only subscription covers the repeats as well as new ballets and I want to see them all. I can not book a mix of ballets with friends and on my own.

At least in for those in London there is a choice of companies, which the Arts Council does not allow in the Regions, although I recognise many travel from out of town to see RB.
