""Schwanensee" on ARTE"

Just a reminder for those who haven't seen it yet - tonight there is "Swan Lake" on arte, the production of Berlin Staatsoper unter den Linden - not my personal favourite, but still interesting, and the music (Tchaikowsky conducted by Barenboim) definitely worth listening!

I don't get ARTE...but what did you think of Baremboim as a dance conductor? Does it work?

There is a DVD on the same performance on Arthous. It is a very competant Swan Lake if rather a bit too serious. Although traditional done it has a lot of Psychology.

As for Barenboim's conducting I thought it was bit too leaden and slow for my likeing!

I agree, Barenboim is too slow in dance conducting. I prefer him as a pianist. I've checked a few different recordings of Swan Lake, and the best conductor was Gennady Rozhdestvensky, God bless him... anyway, it's a recording of the Bolshoi theatre orchestra. really wonderful.
