"special effects"

Do you think billowing clouds of smoke that frequently engulfed the entire floor and first 6 rows of patrons during ENB's Swan Lake (Birmingham)
a) enhanced the performance
b) hid a multitude of sins (of the 50 somethingith performance) or
c) added to the element of surprise at the unexpected happy ending

I'm not sure it enhanced the performance, but in Glasgows SECC, where the acoustics leave rather a lot to be desired, the appearance of Odette at the window in Act 3 was preceeded each time by several seconds of noise as the 'smoke' machine was turned on - Rather spoiled the effect. Despite that I loved the production.

Don't know about enhancing the performance, but it certainly froze my feet at the Albert Hall one night when they got the direction slightly wrong!
