Thursday's NY Times reports Day 1 of the legal action by Ron Protas, to whom Martha Graham willed her choreography, against the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance. If Protas wins, it will mean the almost inevitable loss of the Graham heritage, as dance companies throughout America are determined not to negotiate with him. There are wider issues involved, in particular the question of who owns a dance piece - the choreographer, or the dancers and the company for which it was created.

Also, another bit in the Telegraph magazine (never sure whether that's online, but try going to the site and searching under "Yosvani" or something): a 4-page spread on up-and-coming dance talent, including Akram Khan, BRB's Robert Parker, and Rojo, Watson and Cojocaru from the RB. Probably too late by now for anyone to get hold of a hard copy, but just in case...

There was also an interesting article in the Saturday "Arts & Books" section on the "six o'clock position" with particular reference to Agon and to the differences between American and European ballerinas and their approach to this position, and the impact Sylvie has made. Very interesting. I tried to find the link, but it seems it has not appeared yet electronically.

Saturday's Telegraph was a very good one for dance!
