Which (unpublished) dancing personality's biography/novel would you mostly likely want to read?

Should Derek Deane redo his highlights or not? or seriously now, are all English dancers really pear shaped?

I'd like to go with this for the next poll - but we need names. So what names do you want to see in the list?

Continuing in the book vein, perhaps which biography/autobiography was the best written and most interesting?

e.g. Theatre Street (?)-Karsavina
To Dance-Panov
Autobiography-Fonteyn
and others, de Valois, Massine, Nureyev etc...

My choice would be: autobiographies by Glen Tetley, Christopher Bruce, Koen Onzia and Lynn Seymour (at least another 4 volumes after her first).
I'd like to see joint autobiographies by Colleen and Patricia Neary, and by Carlos Acosta, Jose Manuel Carreno and Yat Sen Chang.

Christopher Hampson's autobiography would be quite entertaining as long as he left out the Australian bits.

I was about to post here that Lynn Seymour's autobiography has been written! BUt I see that you already knew that. Did CHristopher Gable go into print?

THe Seymour book I read about 20 years ago so she may well have a bit more to say now - but I must say I was entranced by it. I never liked her dancing much (I think beautiful feet are very important, and when I was young I didn't like all that miserable Macmillan stuff.... well, tastes change) but after I read her autobiog I really wished I liked her dancing more - I really warmed to the person revealed in the text, and I'd love to meet her.

Are we restricted to living people? I would love to read Vestris's autobiography, and Taglioni's, not to mention Marius Petipa. Probably, if restricted to one, I would go with Petipa.

   How about:

Which of the following foreign companies would you be most keen to see visit Britain ?

Paris Opera Ballet
NYCB
ABT
Kirov

...I'm sure there would be plenty of other suggestions.

what about Sylvie Guillem or Margot Fonteyn (an un-spin doctored version) for books etc idea.

For future polls, I would be interested to find out how people first got interested in dance (via family friends or by accident/other means).

Also, on a slightly focussed level, who would you most like to see promoted as a dancer? I may have a focus on the RB and therefore suggest the obvious choices of Belinda Hatley, Sarah Wildor or Christina McDermott. However, I am sure that others have suggestions for other companies.

Nice idea, Jessica, but how would you expect anyone to choose between those three? I think they should *all* be promoted.

I would like to know how many people vote in the Mini polls. Are some of lower percentages only one or two people?
Could the total number of voters be given at the end, then those folks like myself who spend time with statistics could see how meaningful our votes are.

The statistics for the site overall and who interacts with it at various levels are interesting. We have lots of readers and much fewer who feel comfortable to shove things back. Some rough stats (sorry if they are not all aligned perfectly, I'm just working with stuff easily to hand)

Complete pages delivered to visitors in last month = 95,700

Different visitors to Postings section in a week - approx 1000

People who make postings - not counted and hard to measure but from just looking at the Postings we are talking at 50 - 100 range I think.

The people who vote stats are numerically the same as those who make Postings. And yes the lower percentages are just based on 1 or 2 votes. The current poll has about 30 votes in it at the moment. This will rise as the week goes on of course.

I'm always amazed by how many people look in, but for whatever reason don't feel it's appropriate to Post things and are even worried about placing an anonymous vote. Can you imagine what the place would look like if even half the 1000 weekly visitors contributed?!

Finally the mini-poll is only semi-serious. We have no full-proof way of stopping tampering (we could have something better but requiring people to register and all the cookie stuff would put many off and gets away from the instant nature of it that I am keen to foster). I think it's best to see it as a fun thing which can either confirm your thoughts or not. No big conclusions should necessarily be drawn.
