"Macmillan masterclass"

Did anyone else attend the remarkable Friends of CG evening on Wednesday, where Monica Mason talked about Macmillan and his work, with demonstrations by Tamara Rojo? It was a thrilling 90 minutes, as Monica is such a vivid speaker and teacher that she made every anecdote come alive. She showed us "special moments" from Romeo, Rite of Spring and Song of the Earth, where the ballerina has certain moods and emotiions to express with the steps. Tamara was sublime, from the gentleness of Juliets first scenes to the wild finale of Rite. To see both ladies dancing bits from the final "Song" was really a moment to savour. Monicas facial expressions and gesture were as clear as ever, while Tamara has the legs and feet but is still learning the rest. Very poignant indeed.

Yes, it was a really interesting evening. Monica Mason was very lucid indeed. I found the bits about Romeo and Juliet really fascinating - you learn so much from these sessions.

Can't wait for the next one.

Kind regards
Barbara

It was a interesting 90 minutes, and I'm sure the audience would come back for another session sometime, as hinted, on MacMillan's pas de deux. Rojo is a real treat. (Shame they haven't got the sound sorted out in the Linbury yet - it seemed oddly amateurish)

This event on a specific chorographer is the first in a series. Other Friends events coming up are:

Richard Glasstone on Bronislava Nijinska 24/4, Clore Sudio
with dancer and / or video footage

Richard Glasstone on Fokine, 28/6 Clore
with video footage

Tickets are 13 pounds (includes a voucher for a glass of wine or soft drink). Friends can only buy one ticket per person.

There's a ballet masterclass on Song of the Earth with Mason on 15 May, but it's already sold out, I think.
