Shes American and at a tender age won prizes and competitions. All pointed to an exceptional dancer. She joined RB and much was expected - not least by her countrymen who routinely ask why nothing much is heard of her....

The reality is that she has been seen in the corps, has done a few slightly more soloist roles but has not seemed to make her mark in the same was as others.

It may be worth doing a search of postings - I seem to recall something about her before.

Judging by the unkind way you talk of Nunez (thank goodness dancers don't generally resort to libel!) I don't think you would appreciate Wishinski...

I do know a bit about this young lady's accomplishments as I was living in America at the time she danced for the Hartford Ballet Co. and was able to attend some of the performances she starred in. One was 'La Danse Neva" choreographed by Kirk Peterson, in which Ms. Wishinski was partnered by Carlos Molina of American Ballet Theatre, and for which she received a wonderful review from Robert Greskovic who compared her ballet abilities and mannerisms with that of Mathilda Kchessinska and Cynthia Harvey. As Aurora in the full-length Sleeping Beauty, Ms. Wishinski(16 at the time)received critical acclaim from many, including Francis Mason who compared her to Fonteyn. Her Rose Adagio was quite stunning, however, it was the mood and quality of her dance expression that captured the audience. I've heard she's had several injuries over the past year but is presently in good form. I hope, at the Royal, she "gets a break" as they say - It would be a shame to have such talent go unchecked. You can visit the Gaynor Minden dance profile site, and the Jackson IBC site for other information re this dancer.

Bruce...why do you think that i wont approve of Wishiniski? Saw a photo of her in one of my frequent searchs...i know photos are nothing to go by but she looked lovely. Anyway..i hope she does have her lucky break cos it seems she has lots of potentional...and new blood keeps the company alive. And if the rumours are true that she is injured im sure the physiotheriopsts (typos!) at the ROH will look after her perfectly (talked to them on the tour of the ROH yesterday..they were all great!)

It is not a rumour. She has been injured but I'm not sure how far she is on the road to recovery and if she is dancing on stage again or not! She may well be performing and I just haven't seen her!

I saw her dance in a gala a few years ago, found her very impressive in a contemporary piece, but rather less so in the Don Quixote pdd. I wasn't sure whether she'd just been eclipsed by the likes of Cojocaru and Nunez, but if she's been injured that could explain why we haven't seen much of her.

My understanding from friends who follow the Royal Ballet very closely, is that Wishinski had a very difficult initial two years coping with life in the corps, life in London, inevitable changes in physique which occur during the ages of 16/17, and such. In other words, she's a normal human being! We can only wish her the best and give her our collective hugs & support.

LAST EDITED ON 22-01-01 AT 05:35 PM (GMT)

Its really hard to come here! and the difference between the USA and London is huge. I remember when I first came here, the mannerisms were so completly different...and something that I could'nt get use to was sarcasm! (but now i love British Humour) I hope that she finds her feet and is feeling much better....she sounds like she has great potential...the Royal is lucky to have her , and i hope they nurture her during the difficult period of readjustment which im sure she'll do.

As her first cousin, I can't say I'm impartial - but she is amazing! A young Fonteyn they say. She shines on stage and was born to dance. In person she's the sweetest thing.

It seems as though a lot of you are wondering if melissa is any good.I think i can help clear things up. I've been friends with melissa, or missie as i call her, since fifth grade. She start orginally dancing at a small studio in her home town. She came in september with no ballet training at all. By december she was on point and had solo parts in the nutcracker.By june she preformed a solo on point for the first time. She went away to an intestive summer program and became stronger than ever, she stayed one more year at my studio and then moved on to hartford ballet. The first year at hartford she was Clara. When she was forteen she competed in europe and won. At sixteen she preformed the lead in sleeping beauty. I have never seen anyone move so elegantly as her. She is a wonderful dancers and gave up a lot to go to london. She left school in seventh grade and many of her friends diserted her. She missed out on proms, graduation, and just being a normal kid.She moved to london by herself were she wasn't accepted at first. Is she any good. I think she is amazing. She has feet you would die for! But what makes her the most amazing is that she is the most down to earth person. She is also the type that is she wants something she will put her soul into it until she gets it. I hope this has helped to clear somethings up about her.

Also I read that people were speculating on injuries. And yes she was injured. She tore a ligament in her ankle but is ok now and yes the Royal Ballet has taken very good care of her.
