"Bolshoi Reviews...please!"

Didn't any of you attend the Bolshoi's opening night BAYADERE? Or was is just too-darn-expensive for ordinary balletomanes? (Anne Sacks does not count.)

I'm afraid an awful lot of us were crying into our hankies at Sadler's Wells, seeing the divine Sylvie and Laurent in 'Giselle' - an object lesson in Gallic elan - for probably a third of the price of the Bolshoi. The RB season (top price 36) is selling very well, whereas the Bolshoi is starting to discount (original top price 100).

The 'Independent' (not available online) had a generally posiitve review of the Bolshoi opening night, but did not like the Grigorovich additions.

I'm sure Bolshoi reviews will start to flow through, but there is an awful lot of dance on in London this July. I have tickets for 5 different events in 6 days and none of them are for the Bolshoi. When the Bolshoi discounting really gets going....

Stuart - you might like to know that they had standbys available for the first night!

   Alison

How can you find out about standbys - can you ring the coliseum box office or is it a case of turning up and hopefully being lucky?

Has anyone seen any of the Bolshoi stuff good or bad? Like others, I have tickets for the RB but the price and timing has meant that I am only going to see Spartacus.

As far as I know, stand-bys at 25 are only available for students, seniors and unemployed. However, I think every performance has had tickets placed at the Half-price Theatre Booth on the south side of Leicester Square. I was offerred 5th row in the Upper circle for half price 2 booking fee ie 31.

Sorry, Jessica, only just spotted this posting. I think they're available from 2 hours before the show, but yes, they are supposed to be for concessions only. Otherwise, as Stuart says, try Leicester Square, although I have noted that they've virtually only ever had Upper Circle tickets. Obviously there are enough people around rich enough to pay full whack for the top-price seats!
