"Artistic Directors"
It's great to see Matthew posting on this site. One wonders how many other dance/artistic directors take notice of our views and interests. I know Greg Horsman pops in from time to time but do any of the heads of other companies bother to take a look? If so it would be good if they would declare themselves just occasionally

I don't know the answer to your question, Ann. But I know from experience (and sometimes unhappy e-mails i've received) that it pays to assume that everything we write is being read by the person referred to.

Now recovered from releasing magazine and can respond to some postings....

It is indeed nice when those more involved in ballet and dance put their head around the door - its wider than AD's. But I can understand the reticence of some: they are more interested observers than anything. We are though known by many in companies and I'm amazed at times by what people have taken on board, from Postings particularly.

Now he's gone I don't think Michael Kaiser will mind me saying that he was a browser. I remember being introduced and saying I'd heard he dropped in from time to time. He smiled and said "Every day!" with a knowing wink. I also often get asked if certain posters are for real! Coudl anybody really dream up Blandine and Eugene I say!

I think we are a place where all can meet. We don't seek to be earnest, super intelligent, or even perfectly balanced on any and every issue. We love ballet and dance, look to understand it some more and have some constructive (and unconstructive and self centred!) views.

Those who produce dance (produce anything original) have a tough job and I suspect our complaints about this and that could usefully be put in context by the occasional good natured push back from the other side. The other thing we have done of course is have diaries and other pieces from those involved in ballet and dance and they often provide interesting insights into another world.
