"Which is the best Classical Company?"

The Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Kirov, Bolshoi, Nyc ballet which one?, Im sure many of you can cross at least 2 of them out, I have watched all of them except Paris opera ballet, though I hope to see them soon in Paris. I hope there will be a mini-poll concerning this subject, and I hope that many of you more knowledgeable in ballet will add a few more companies to my list. As a ballet enthusiast I cannot claim to have an encyclopaedic knowledge but Iím a devotee. I know companies are known for their different styles and traditions and therefore cannot be compared etc etc. But I would like too, and itís just a question I want too attempt to answer.

I know bad the other troup than POB but I have the feeling that POB troup is for me the best not for the dancer (even I think they are !!!)but because it's the only one able to dance every ballet of repertory, from Petipa to Forsythe by Balanchine, Robbins, Kylian and so one with the required style.
Kirov and Bolchoi are more traditional than POB even Kirov opens himself to other repertory than Balanchine, Bťjart and so one.
I don't know well ROH they're open to other repertory and it seems to have good dancer even some went away with the ROH closing.

Thanks for the information catherine, i know i have to go down and see the POB being one of the most versetile companies around. But i have to make do w/ the RB, and we're lucky enough to have some guest stars from the POB come down sometimes, its true that 5 male stars departed from the RB, i wonder what they're up to now. But the present Principal line up at the RB if u include all the guest stars is top quality. (we just need a good chorergrapher and some better looking leads, cos most of them are old now reaching 40!)

There is an awful lot about all this on the site. It's probably worth doing a search on Kumakawa and/or K Ballet in:
Postings
Reviews db (use Advanced Search)
InterViews and News db (use Advanced Search again)

Learning to do the searches for yourselves is probably a good idea 'cos it will enable you to search for other things as and when you need - no need to throw your hands up in the air and say "I know you had some links Bruce but they seem to have gone..." etc etc. Its not difficult and worth spending a few minutes trying out etc.

All that said here are some links to do some searches....

You can't compare them (in my view) - every induvidual will have their own valid opinion and who is to say that opinion is the right or wrong!

i agree with that completly, but its just sometimes you want to know, thats why we have polls! (bruce can u do this one?) everyone has an opinion and its nice to know other peoples, cos even if you dont agree with it, it may teach you something new.

The POB, without a doubt, although I very much enjoyed the Kirov at Covent Garden this summer. I agree with Catherine that the POB have the edge in versatility.

Im should be revising but answering these postings are more intresting, if i fail its ballet.co's fault, what a wonderful site. Anyway I do love the Kirov when i watched them this summer I actually shed a tead at the end of la Barydara (i cant spell) what a magical ballet that was. But I support the RB so much, probably cos they're in London and I root for the home team and it only takes me 5 mins to walk to the ROH, lucky me . I love the Bolshoi they just move like this massive creature, but I think they lack the delicatness of the RB or Kirov. I have to see the POB, why did'nt they come to London, they just went to Salford!, lucky manchester.

A good idea for a Mini-poll and we will take it forward... but I'm saving it up at the moment. The other thing is who would be the list of names... ABT? Royal Danish?

I know that NYCB is specialized in Balanchine and Robbins but why not NYCB or San Francisco ballet.
The first is one of the best troup I saw even they dance essentially Balanchine, they can dance everywhere and their dancers are really good and can all dance. It seems that Stiefel come to RB in the year, Zelinsky too.

But isn't it a bit like the best theatre poll? I haven't been to all those theatres, so I don't know which is the best. Equally, I haven't seen all the companies, at least not recently - and I've never seen ABT. I know it's just a bit of fun, but I still don't see how I could choose one.
