"Durante&Kumakawa in ENB Nutcracker"

The debut performance of Durante and Kumakawa with the ENB was not significant enough. I really miss her Sugar Plum in the RB's production I saw last year. On Thursday I was really pleased to see her dance again but somehow she didn't shine. The partnership with Kumakawa didn't do anything to me. I think something must be wrong with me. Maybe my expectation was too high or because I didn't like the ENB's production. Maybe because I couldn't believe that I was watching the two big ballet stars in a city like Southampton (Kumakawa is a huge star and very famous even to non ballet lovers in Japan and a ticket to see him is a dream.) although I don't think the audience there knew who these two were. I'm going again tonight. Hope I can change my mind.

What a complete waste of talent especially for Durante- Deane's Sugar Plumb is such a minor role that it is hardly worth it giving to such a fine dancer as Durante!

Is it any more minor than in the RB production? Doesn't seem so to me.

I find your comments really sad, are you saying that big names should only dance in London. If these dancers performed more often around the country maybe people would know who they are. If this art form is to survive I feel that it and its stars have to be seen by the public and that means performing in other major cites as well. The documentary on Dame Alicia a few weeks ago showed how one of this Country’s biggest stars was willing to take her talents and artistry to the people. There should be more of it.

My comment was not about big names performing outside of London at all. You misunderstood me. I just couldn't believe my eyes on Thursday as it doesn't happen so often in this country. If you must know I don't live in London and I am from the Southampton area ! And I was really pleased to see Viviana in my local. I never ever said stars shouldn't dance outside of London. And I really wish they could dance here often. I really enjoyed today's performance overall. The both Viviana and Teddy were excellent and I even liked the production. (but I'm not sure about the role of Drosselmeyer.) I hope people in London will enjoy the ballet from next week.

   Dear Tomoko,

Hello, Tomoko! I'm living in London.

I've seen your name here lots of times.
So I can understand you.
Although you love Viviana & Teddy, you love ballet indeed.
Don't you?
Your comment is always fair and not emotional.

My some of friends are professional dancers.
So I am sure they need the impressions of their performance
like yours.

I have HP.
Actually, It's not for all of ballet fans & I haven't shown
my impressions of the performances at the moment.
However, my poems, photos and the others on my web site are
always showing what I feel.
I'm definitely sure the performances lots of me.

Anyway, I've really enjoyed your message here indeed.

Tata for now,
Seikoxxx

Seiko, Thanks for posting. I've been a big fan of Viviana for ages and I was really missing her since she left the Royal early this year. So, it was a great pleasure to see her in my local area. I even didn't need to go to London and it was like a dream ! Well, that is what I meant. I had never seen Teddy and Viv dance together before, but I heard they've been establishing their partnership very well. Schame I didn't get around to see their Carmen in Japan. I really envy people living in London as they are so spoilt for choice. Luckily I'm able to go to London for ballet, opera and art galleries quite often and easily, but still not as often as I'd like. As for ballet, here we get the ENB twice a year and I never miss there visit. But that's all. We don't get BRB and NBT. If you want to see big stars like Sylvie or Darcey, you've got to go to London. I don't think Sylvie would perform outside of London, sadly. The RB is not a touring company anyway. Everybody in every part of the country should be entitled to enjoy high quality of art (I never ever meant that ballet companies or ballet stars shouldn't performe outside of London. Sorry for repeating, but I want to make it clear.). But it is sadly not pssible.
Seiko, it was really nice to hear from you.

It's that wretched Arts Council policy at work again, I'm afraid.

Sorry to hear that and I'm glad I waited to see them until the opening night in London... where I was mightily impressed. Teddy has come on leaps and bounds (sorry!) in his partnering.
