"Campaign to save Fonteyn's possessions from auction"

There's already quite a bit about this from various sources under the "Latest Review Links - w/b 4th December" thread, but I thought it worth repeating in a separate posting. As you probably know, some of Margot Fonteyn's possessions, costumes etc. are to be auctioned off a week from today (I think!), and there is quite a bit of feeling that they ought to be preserved for posterity/the nation rather than split up. Anyone who feels the same is urged to write to Chris Smith, Culture Secretary urgently. As I said, further details are in the other link.

I am just wondering...didn't the people supposedly close to Fonteyn see this sale coming?

I totally agree with the idea of keeping the collection intact, but isn't it a bit late to go on the warpath this way? It seems this incredibly good friend of Fonteyn, Lady Jellicoe, could have done something before now? Perhaps she is not on speaking terms with Letitia Hookham?
