I was wondering if anyone on this Board also participates on others.

While small and focused on the UK, both my wife (the dancer and much more educated than I) and I favour this forum over everything else we have found.

I also participate on BalletAlert, which does have a lot of redeeming qualities, but is myopic in its view of ballet and rather staid.

Most of our friends who are or have been at the top of their craft excelled in Europe. Myrna Kamara is blastin a name for herself with Bejart as we speak.

We really enjoy learning about the UK (I attend ULU and my wife participated in the Royal Ballet summer program as a teen), but really need some guidance.

Thanks

Kirk

   Glad you like us!

Others who surf more I'm sure will advise, but my feeling is that while there are a number of postings boards around, many have problems with reaching any sensible critical mass and hence appear rather forlorn and unloved. I think the main 3 are alt.arts.ballet (the newsgroup), Ballet Alert and ourselves. That's English boards of course. I'm sure the Japanese have some big boards to.

Its also very much the case that for everybody who posts there are many who lurk and say not a thing, though eventually we hope to coax them out!

While we cover the UK in detail, and rightly so, we do increasingly feature more from around the world (the number of overseas reviews we have is quite high I think) and I hope that becomes reflected in our postings pages. I certainly see ballet and dance becoming increasingly global in nature and we need to support and track that change. And to do that is very clear part of our strategy. But it takes a while for people to get comfortable with boards and I suspect we will all grow steadily.

I'm not sure if I'd describe Ballet Alert as staid, but I'm very sure that nobody would ever accuse Ballet.co of that! And despite our name, as I suspect you have noticed, we have a broader than ballet approach - hence us also starting to use the name Danze.co (and Danze.com which we also have). The one area we don't do so well is Europe and if you are able to help us cover this better do please say. With the opening of Sadler's Wells we are seeing many more European companies in the UK and there is much to be done in understanding other traditions.

But I'm really glad you like our forum I have to say - that's made my night!
